RECs \u2013 Renewable Energy Communities<\/strong> represent a new way of experiencing energy: more local, more sustainable, more equitable<\/strong>. They are groups of citizens, businesses, public entities, and associations that come together voluntarily<\/strong> to produce, consume, and share renewable energy<\/strong>, with economic and social benefits distributed among the participants.<\/p>\n

How a Renewable Energy Community Works<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Each participant can choose to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • \n

    be a Consumer<\/strong>, by consuming energy produced by the community;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    also become a Prosumer<\/strong>, meaning they produce renewable energy (e.g., with photovoltaics) and share any surplus<\/strong> with other members.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The shared energy is managed through digital monitoring and balancing systems, and is rewarded with government incentives<\/strong> (Reward Tariff) for each kWh virtually shared among the members.<\/p>\n

      Local development<\/strong>
      Resources stay within the territory, creating value for the community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Social support<\/strong>
      RECs can allocate part of the energy and revenues to assist families facing energy poverty<\/strong>, in collaboration with social services.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      Ecological transition and active citizenship<\/strong>
